My Old Man

Folks, we’re all good here. I hate to put our business all out in the open, but I thought y’all should know why I’m going to be out of stock for a bunch of stuff and why we’ll not be fulfilling orders on Monday. My old man passed away in our home on the 13th. It was a good death. He was surrounded by lots on grandbabies and lots of love and passed in the night. This man always ensured we had some woods nearby to play in and worked hard for his family. If you appreciate what I’m doing with Buck Rail you have him, in part, to thank. Please be patient with us while we mourn for him. I’ll be back at it on Tuesday.

There is so much that I could say, but I’ll just leave you with this obituary from my sister:

Terry Lee Harman, Sr., 69, resident of Santa Fe, Texas passed from this life, Wednesday, December 13, 2023. Terry was born in Galveston, Texas to parents Ted and Vera Harman on September 6, 1954. He was preceded in death by his mother and brother, Eric O’Neal. He was raised by his doting grandparents, Anthony and Vera Ollie, in Galveston, Texas. It was there he learned to garden, hunt, fish, crab golf and appreciate all the intricate beauties of God’s creation. He made an art of everything he did, including his lifelong career as a pipeline welder.

Terry took Don McLean’s words to heart: “I can still remember how that music used to make me smile and I knew if I had my chance that I could make those people dance and maybe they’d be happy for a while…”

He was a musician at heart and leaves behind a personal soundtrack to the lives of his loving family; his wife of 44 years, Kimberly Harman; daughters, Sheri Etheridge (Shawn), Julie Harman, Amanda Schanzer (Eric); sons, Daniel Harman, Shane Harman (Emily), Terry Harman Jr. (Jaime); sisters, Amanda McGuire, Christina Drewry; brothers, Randall Harman, David Harman, Johnathan Harman, and Teddy Harman; 18 grandchildren; as well as numerous extended family, friends and colleagues.”

Sincerely,

Terry Jr

  1. RIP, very sorry for your loss thoughts & PRAYERS SENT

  2. The Greek writer Aeschylus wrote something that has stuck with me ever since I read it: “Even in our sleep, pain that cannot forget falls drop by drop upon the heart until – in our own despair and against our will – wisdom comes through the terrible grace of god.”

To be surrounded by loved ones, to know their love is true, and to pass peacefully in sleep; there is no better blessing this life can ultimately give in the end. May we all be so lucky. May the pain in your heart eventually be dulled and balanced by the wisdom of the love that your father gave you.

  3. Very sorry for your loss. What a very nice rememberance your sister wrote.

  12. I have come to respect You and Yours through your Work & Work Ethics; I can see the “Apple didn’t fall far from the Tree”. In these cases, I would be a flat out hypocrite in telling You how sorry I am and how much I understand; every Man is a Universe and expresses Griefs/Duress in unique ways beyond our “Human” frailty. Let’s simply say, that in this, as in other righteous instances, We were/am/will be Solidary with both Family & Business.

    Godspeed,

I remember when my Dad died, I was in my 20s, and as a close friend predicted, for about the first year his memories would unexpectedly sorta overpower me, kinda like a sneaker ocean wave. ‘Glad you and yours have good memories!
As the song says, he “took his Chevy to the levy” one last time.
